Petro-dependent?
(by Duncan Hart)
Petrochemicals and their by-products are so prevalent in our daily lives that it is easy to take them for granted. Our consumption of oil and gas carries with it the problems of pollution, global warming and persistent plastic waste not to mention the issue of finite resources. All these associated problems made me wonder how vital petrochemicals are to life and in the spirit of investigation I decided to put it to the test.
The project consists of experiments in reducing and/or eliminating my use of petrochemicals. These experiments last from 3 days to 3 weeks and involve such areas as habitation, food, heat and light, clothing and hygiene. How far can I go? What will I discover? Can I kick the habit?
Documentation of the experiments ispresented in the form of photographs and journal entries.
